Friends,
I’m happy to share this news: Operation Surf will give a copy of my book, A Walk Among Heroes, to all those participating in their programs. I’m proud that they believe my book provides inspirational stories that fit into their work to help our veterans heal.
Operation Surf is a non-profit organization that seeks to aid disabled veterans through the restorative process of surfing. Yes, you got that right, surfing. The group provides week-long clinics where they fly veterans to one of California’s beautiful beaches for fellowship and peer-to-peer support. Did I mention that they also get to surf?
Here is a link to their website: https://operationsurf.org

Here’s their mission.
“Our mission is to channel the healing powers of the ocean to restore hope, renew purpose, and revitalize community.”

“Operation Surf’s curriculum-based programs aim to inspire injured military and veterans to seek wellness in all aspects of their lives while providing the necessary resources, tools, and peer-to-peer support to continue this mindset indefinitely.
“By staying true to our core values of care, inclusion, commitment, integrity, and communication, we change participants’ lives – one wave at a time.”
The motto of Operation Surf is straightforward. “If they are dreaming of the waves tomorrow, they won’t take their life today.”
Here is why they are so committed to helping veterans:
• An estimated 1 in 3 veterans are diagnosed with PTSD
• Less than 40% of those seek help
• 22 veterans commit suicide daily

This is so fantastic!!
Gary, now THAT’S how to help veterans!
